When did I become such a Frump Girl?
On the weekends (or days off that I take in the middle of the week like today) I'm all business. I have a list of things that need doing and I wake up, toss on my clothes and go. Bed head, bad breath (not really...I DO brush my teeth first...I mean yuck!), I rub the sleep from my eyes, don't even bother looking in the mirror, (bra? what bra?) and I'm gone! Things to do!
So it always comes as a surprise to me when SM comes up and gives me a hug and a kiss when he wakes up in the morning. Especially when Frump Girl is in the house.
"Ack...Frump Girl!" I protest shrugging him off. He just snuggles in harder.
"You look fine." He reassures me.
"Ha!" Even I can see the bags and the freaked out curly hair in the window reflection. "I'm a witch, a hag!"
"No, you're not. You might be a bitch and a nag from time to time." He says grinning at me. "Look...You just woke up and I haven't even had a cup of coffee yet and you're hard at it. Have I told you how much I appreciate all of your hard work?"
"Yeah, but I look still terrible." I respond.
"Have you taken a close look at me this morning?" SM asks.
"Well, you are looking a bit rough around the edges but since I like my men to look like men, you look pretty good to me." I reply. "Is this what happens to us after we've been married as long as we have? Frump Girl and Crusty Old Guy?" I ask.
"On second thought...don't answer that." I say putting up my hand in the stop position.
(*I still look 25 in my head, though...)
I'm normally a Frump girl on a day-to-day basis as I'm a SAHM and don't have to look "presentable". Sometimes I'll go all-out and paint my toenails (once every six months or so) or put some makeup on.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the possibility of visiting company (or a stint on the treadmill) will always have me running for my delicates drawer to retrieve my bra.
Tami: Thanks for my morning smile. I was up at 5 to get the garden work done before it got too hot...didn't brush my hair, no bra, raggy old stained t-shirt and a pair of jogging shorts I purchased in the 80's...high top red converse shoes with white socks...good Lord I must look like a crazy lady! Billy Boy drove by big smile and wave...happy to see his *Lady Love* out so early...the poor man better never get his eyes fixed...
ReplyDeleteMe, I still feel 32 LOL Pity the mirror doesn't agree with me.
ReplyDeleteLucky you who has a husband who verbalizes his appreciation...
Frump girl - I TOTALLY identify :)
I'd rather be a frump than a chump who feels like she has to dress to please other people. Appearance is way overrated! I just wanna be comfy.
ReplyDeleteFrump Girl is a daily occurrence in our house, unless I am going to work, but then my outfit is already picked out for me. Makeup is only for special nights out or when we go to visit friends. I used to ask Hubby if it was OK that I wasn't wearing makeup to go out to dinner, and he always said, I like you better without :)
ReplyDeleteIts good to know that the men we married love us for exactly who and what we are. Not to mention what we REALLY look like!
Aw, what a sweet guy. Sounds like a keeper!
ReplyDeleteWell I used to be a frump, and sometimes the bra was optional (and I am not a small chested girl) until on two different occasions I accidentally may have flashed an unsuspecting person who I didnt know was here. SO, needless to say I now try to be fully put together at all times cause you just dont know what poor delivery guy or worker might get a rude start to the day.
ReplyDeleteI hate bras. But alas, I have to. Never know who is going to show up, I don't call it Grand Central for nothin' dang it!!
ReplyDeleteBut Oh, I soooo relate to being younger in my head. Sometimes on the rare occassion I do look in the evil mirror, I have no clue who is staring back at me! It ain't me I tell ya!
I shall forever be 33. I think that's when I was at my best face stage. Then again, I don't care much either ;) That's the beauty of getting older at least...who cares????
Very sweet and very funny - don't answer that indeed. :-)
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! We are the same person married to the same man! :-)
