Lush

I can say a lot about the summer of 2011.  The 3 H's apply, but that's nothing new. If you're going to live in the Carolina's you should expect hazy, hot and humid summers.  To even think about having it any other way is a fantasy, a dream.

I could pull out all sorts of data about how many days we've been in the 90's this year or the 100's even.

(*Yawn)  Stand in line.  The whole country's an oven.

But what IS astonishing about the summer of 2011 is the fact that it's a lush year.

SM went out to mow the yard and I tagged along to snap some pic's.

We shouldn't be mowing now.  Our grass should be dormant, brown and crunchy as we walk on it.  The "dog days" of summer are out in full force and I don't think I've seen a prettier summer in the 13 years we've lived here.

The color of the crepe myrtles are so intense they hurt your eyes to look at them.

To me a lush carpet of pine needles or spongy grass is more welcome than the most luxurious Persian rug. - Helen Keller

I think Helen would like the feel of our green carpet this year and I bet she could feel the intensity of the blue skies and smell the subtle fragrance of crepe myrtle.

  1. I think I got your brown crunchy grass. You can have it back if you like :)

  2. Absolutely beautiful, though the thought of living in that heat scares me silly. I guess I'd have to live the opposite life from what I do now. Exercise in the winter and gain weight in the summer instead of exercise in the summer and gain weight in the winter. ;)

  3. I would take that green green grass....but you can keep the heat and humidity. Ugh.

  4. Beautiful!!! I appreciate your post - you are right, no need in complaining about the heat and humidity, it comes with where we choose to live. Nice to see all the green. Although small spots of my lawn show the stress of the weather, we too have a strange amount of green this year.
