Other People's Money

Q:  There are those nasty critics, of course, who suggest that you don't really want to bring the Labor Party down at the moment.  Life is a bit too difficult in the country and that...leave them to sort the mess out and then come in with the attack later...say next year.

A:  I would much prefer to bring them down as soon as possible.  I think they've made the biggest financial mess that any government's ever made in this country for a very long time and Socialist governments traditionally DO make a financial mess.  They always run out of other people's money.  It's quite a characteristic of them.  They then start to nationalise everything, and people just do not like more and more nationalisation, and they're now trying to control everything by other means.  They're progressively reducing the choice available to ordinary people.

- Margaret Thatcher (February 5th, 1976)

What can I say about the S&P's downgrading of America's credit rating?  Long overdue in my opinion.  Maybe if someone and smacked our noses a few years ago, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in.

But there ARE people who still believe in this administration.  Not me.  Never did.  As a matter of fact, I lost faith with Bush in his second term.

So where do we go from here?

I have no idea.  The one man who I think has the "cojones" to do the job is Chris Christie and he won't run.  Not yet.  Not now.

It would take an individual of extraordinary character and leadership skills to pull our county out of the mess we find ourselves in.

(*That's all I'm going to say about politics.  That's not why I blog.  But still...what a freakin mess.)

  1. I agree... All the way... I don't say a whole lot about politics, but such a great little post. And yeah... What a flippin mess we are in. Sometimes I think I just don't want to live here. Or maybe 100% off the grid. No conventional electricity, no credit cards. Just escape all of this financial messiness. What a hot mess we are all in!

  2. It's too bad we were't downgraded a while ago, you know, when things started going south. Too much politics involved so our crappy rating couldn't be touched.

I know it was asking too much, but I was really hoping that the government would "default". At this point, it's the only thing that can stop (or at least slow down) the Constitution-stomping elites in Congress & the WH.

In the mean time.....keep those gardens going & that canning pot boiling.

  3. I just happened to be in the car listening to the radio when I heard the announcement about the country's credit rating. This particular reporter termed it in such a way that all I could think was "more scare tactics." I say, politics is the opiate of the masses. The politicians make a mess of things (right on, MT) and then give us little guys a hard time about it. My DH would agree with you about Chris Christie, but we all know even if he did run and get elected, he wouldn't get the cooperation he needed from the opposing party (which seems to make a career out of being against everyone and everything.)
