Buy One Get One Free

Beverly over at Bee Haven Acres inspired me to try and root some celery from a store bought plant.

I'd chopped off the celery stems to use in a potato salad and then plunked the end into some water and lookie there...

SM thinks it's gonna take a LONG time before I get something outta this but I think it's fun to try. I can see it now...A little cluster bomb of little celery plants growing at different stages depending on how often I buy them.

It's worth a shot!  Way easier than trying to grow from seed!

  1. Thanks for posting this! I want to try and grow some from seeds this fall or maybe early spring but this cutting method I'll try next week.

  5. So can you "plant" the whole bottom part in the dirt or do you just leave it in the water until you get the size stalks you can use?

  6. Beverly let the stump get some roots going and then planted it in a pot. Since it's coming up on Summer, I just might do the same so I can control temperature exposure. If I was in a more cooler climate, I'd likely just stick it in the ground.

  7. Thanks for stopping by and giving me some tips on growing carrots. My celery has really "bushed" out!

  8. Definitely worth a shot! I did buy some celery seed before I learned about this technique. I'll have to try both this fall and see how they go.
