What's For Dinner?

SM wandered into the kitchen the other evening around dinner time.  He heard me puttering around in there and came to investigate.  What he found was me elbow deep transplanting the tomatoes.

They were long and gangly and starting to flop over.  I didn't use the grow light this year.  Since we've had an early Spring, these starts have spent a lot of time outdoors already.  When the wind or the temperatures rose, I would just bring them back in and set them at my south facing window.

Peppers sure are slow to start aren't they?  I've got my first true leaves on the tomatoes already and some of the peppers are just now starting to pop.

I only had 2 tomatoes starts (out of 40) that didn't germinate.  Pretty good rate.  The peppers are about 50/50 right now.  I'll give them some more time to make an appearance.

What is weird is my red leaf lettuce.  I can't seem to get them to germinate.  I've sown 3 batches so far and only one made an appearance and that briefly.  They died back.  I'm trying to keep them watered but I guess the heat was too much for them.  The green leaf that I sowed in early March is going strong and we're eating from that batch.

I think I'll try again with the red.  The long term forecast shows normal temperatures coming up.  Maybe I'll get lucky.

  1. Love the new pix of SM!

I had a hard time getting my lettuce started too, although I direct sow. I do have a few now though that I can pick from today.

You're gonna have a ton of tomatoes, girl! Enjoy!
