Titanic

New Years is one of my favorite holidays.

"I still think Thanksgiving is tops, but New Years runs a really close second with me."  I tell SM.

"Why is that do you think?"  SM quizzes me.

"Well...Maybe it's because it's Day One.  A fresh start.  A clean slate!  What do you guys say in golf?  It's a mulligan?  A do-over!"

I preach on finding my stride.

"Look at it this way...Every year you get 365 days to screw things up.  But by the time the New Year starts, you've rolled the ticker back to 1 again.  Anything is possible!"

I pause, thinking of a better way to explain it.

"It's kinda like the movie Titanic."  I say.

"Titanic?"  SM asks clearly confused.

"Yeah, you know...On New Years Day you're like Leonardo DiCaprio on the Titanic."

"You're the King of the World.  On top of your game.  You can see where you want to go, dream of what you want to be.  You can touch the sky if you want to cause anything is possible!"

"But only for that one moment.  Cause sure enough life is gonna get in the way and someone's gonna toss an iceberg in your path."

"Boom!  Then whatcha gonna do?  Sink or swim?"

SM just looks at me, rubs his face with his hands and walks away.

I tell you it's exhausting hanging out with me!  Aren't you glad you just come to visit every now and then?

Happy New Year Everyone!  See ya in 2013!

  1. Somehow I don't think Squeetie Man has it so bad. (Besides, he's learned how to walk away. Just kidding!)

Sending best wishes for a wonderful New Year!

  3. Great take on the first day of the New Year. I totally get your philosophy. I agree too. So here's to the 500 dollar Titanic and some small ice bergs that only make you change your course, not sink the ship. I hate swimming in frigid water. Happy New Year.
