Frozen Observatons

It's 12 degrees this morning.

Yesterday it was 7.

The day before that it was 11.

It's been so cold I haven't walked in 3 days.

Which means the dogs haven't walked in 3 days.

These numbers are disturbing to me for several reasons.

First, my backyard will no doubt be littered with the frozen postmortems of 3 days of 3 dogs eating 2 meals.

(note to self - Get out and clean up while they're still frozen.)

Second, both SM and I have noticed the waistbands of our jeans are fitting a bit tighter again.

January has not been a friend to those who don't own a gym membership.  I much prefer breathing the clean fresh air outside than the stankiness of an inside gym.

SM wanders into the kitchen, fixes a cuppa Joe, takes a sip, looks outside and says to me... "When we lived in the midwest, Feburary was always the month I wanted to slit my wrists, I was so tired of the cold."

"Good thing we live in the South where it's so warm."  I replied.

SM snorts and wanders away.

Good thing we don't have any razor blades around.

Let's all hope Feburary is a gentler month than January has been.

We're on a warming trend starting today.  Things will get back to normal for us weather-wise.  50's for highs and 30's for lows.

Which means that I can get back to walking again.

Which means my waistline might start to shrink again.

Which means the dogs can get sniffing again.

And all is right with the world.

  1. It was 11 this morning, that is hot compared to -2 yesterday but really once you get into the teens it is just plain cold. Lucky we have global warming or it might be really cold by now!

    1. Yeah, where's Al Gore when you have some pointed questions to ask him?

  2. Hang in there, friend. Your wonky cold weather can't last for long. Can it?! Your spring will come much sooner than ours. We've still got a full two months of it. However, last year we got most of our snow in APRIL! If that happens again, added to our already record-breaking amounts so far this winter, we may not see bare ground until August. (Oh, bite your tongue, Mama Pea!) Your morning temps are what WE should be having instead of our below zero ones.

  3. Just make sure to get to the poopsicles before it RAINS. Ask me how I know how bad that can be.

  4. Brrrrr. It's been cold and rainy here for the last two weeks. No walks or bike rides on a regular basis make me depressed. Hope the sun is shining on you this weekend!
