Yes...I Do

Twenty eight years ago today SM and I joined our lives together in holy matrimony.

It seems like a long time ago when we were those kids.  So young!

And then again, it feels like it was just yesterday.

You often read articles about how couples in long term marriages made it that far.

Like there's a secret out there to having a successful marriage.

I'm sure some things help.

We're friends.  Yes...We actually like each other as people.

We're independent.  I've always respected his need to branch out on his own in business or in play.  Yes, there are some boundaries but a good bit of stretching is allowed.

We respect each other.

We laugh.  A lot.

We talk.  Even about the hard stuff.

But ultimately it's a choice.  Do I want to continue to walk life's pathways with this person?

Yes?  Or no?

I can't speak for SM but even at my lowest lows (and trust me all marriages have them), I still said "Yes...I want to be here.  I want you in my life."

And for me, it's as simple as that.

Yes.

I do.
