We spent a lot of money at the nursery yesterday. I could have spent more but really didn't have the room even though SM drove the truck and I followed in the Camry. Mostly because the truck is old and you never know what's gonna blow on her. But we actually filled both vehicles with plants so I suppose I HAD to stop.
But I could've bought more.
Just saying.
So here's the loot. When I look at it in the pictures, it doesn't seem like much.
We got the Red Maple tree planted before I crapped out and SM had to go run a job.
Guess what we'll be doing today? Yep...The rest of it.
I bought 3 different hydrangia varities. Some that will take the full sun and one that can't so we'll place that one back by the fence. And more blueberries!
We're starting to lay out the landscaping area around the back deck.
Gosh! So much to do....I'd best get off the computer!
I know what you mean. I have space for a shady bed of plants now and I just came in from planting nine pots of what I purchased yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI'm envious of your "shade". I never shop for shade loving plants. Drought tolerant, direct sun are my best bet. Not that I don't TRY and grow something more delicate. It's a pot shot though.
DeleteI'm going to be like that soon. I've got a lot of plants on order and I think they are all going to ship them on Monday. So by the end of the week I'll have a lot to put in the ground. At least I got some this last week to spread it out a bit.
ReplyDeleteHope the weather cooperates for you. Nothing like having to stall when you've got lousy conditions.
DeleteIt's SO easy to do huh? We just bought some more fruit trees and other plants too (and I still want/need more, ha). It'll pay you back a lot!!
ReplyDeleteI want a Redbud and another Maple and some Peonies and more daylilies and.....
DeleteYay for new plants! We spent a lot yesterday putting new plants in too. Love that feeling...
ReplyDeleteOh yeah...THAT FEELING. Gosh I must be getting older! It's taking me awhile to get the kinks out. I shuffle around like an old lady after a full day.
DeleteThat God for work so I can relax!
Good goin'! It's all going to look really nice . . . plus the blueberries? Yum! We're eliminating the beds on either side of our deck this year but expanding the one in front. A couple of nut trees (I hope) and some perennial plantings. But ours won't happen for another month or so.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: Do you have trouble with your dogs going through the flower beds and under your deck to find coolness and shade in the summer? When we redo our deck (also on the list for this season) I'm considering some kind of barrier or facing so we don't have that problem. I don't mind a dog going under there as it's all gravel and dry, but tromping through the flower beds has been a nuisance . . . tromped on and broken foliage, ya know.
We have "inside" dogs which basically means that they live in air conditioned splendor during the hot months. I suppose if I lived in MN I'd be inclined to leave them out but a hot day here can kill so we leave them in.
DeleteWe bought skirting for the deck this weekend as the dogs do love to stomp around under there. Anything fragile goes in the fenced in garden area or is potted up (like annuals).
Casey-Pig has been know to do a leaping belly flop on top of a bush that might hold a bird or a bunny. She's all-in...I can say that for her.
I don't dare go to a nursery! Then, again, hmmmm. I am toying with the idea of yoinking out the Barberry bushes in front of the house and replacing them with something shade-loving. I can't wait to see all the plants in place - pictures! More pictures!
ReplyDeleteI want a red bud and the nursery wants $70 for a tinnie weenie one. I mentioned to SM that we ought to go yoink one out of the woods that borders the hwy. SM told me he heard of a guy that tried that (with a X-mas tree) and wasn't fast enough. The Man fined him $125. Ha!
